Tapping into one of the games in the "happening now" section is a lot like diving into a trending topic on Twitter. It surfaces tweets related to the event, as well as real-time game scores, which are pinned to the top of the feed.
In a tweet, Twitter's VP of Product Keith Coleman said the company was "just scratching the surface" with the new feature for sports scores.

The company confirmed the feature will start with sports and expand to breaking news, entertainment, and other topics over the next few weeks.
The update is just the latest way Twitter has sought to draw in sports fans by emphasizing live coverage. In August, the company cut a deal with digital sports network Stadium for its round-the-clock college sports coverage. Twitter has also played host to live streams of Thursday-night NFL games and MLB games.
By now showcasing professional sports front and center in its app, the company is further doubling down on its efforts to make Twitter the destination for sports fans.
