If you strapped on Japan Archivesyour Apple Watch this morning and immediately got a reminder that you need to hit the gym after your holiday feasting, you weren't the only one starting off the day feeling guilty.
Today, Apple sent every Apple Watch owner in the world a push notification announcing the "Ring in the New Year Challenge" -- yet another reminder that every January should be spent exercising the last year's woes (and surplus poundage) away.
SEE ALSO: You can finally play 'Pokémon Go' on an Apple WatchIt's a simple concept: starting Jan. 2, the Challenge begins. From Monday to Sunday each week of the month, Apple Watch users will be encouraged to close all three Activity rings by running, swimming, or doing whatever cross-training activity that strikes their fancy to fill the quota.
With four full weeks in the month, there are four opportunities to earn the achievement. Participants will be prompted to share their goals and achievements on social media, because the one thing the month of January needs is more people posting about their health goals and fitspo aspirations.
A special notification, along with an achievement badge and pack of stickers (which can be shared and used in iMessage) will be the prize for winners — because living a new healthy lifestyle just can't be enough.
This is the second year in a row Apple has drawn attention to the Watch around the New Year. In 2015 in an exclusive interview with Mashable, Apple VP of Technology Kevin Lynch touted the Watch's accuracy and encouraged wearers to count down to midnight together to ensure that everyone was celebrating at the exact same moment.
This year, Apple Watch wearers will be sweating together to ring in 2017-- making the annual influx of New Year's resolution workout warriors in gyms everywhere just a bit more well-connected.
