Tech company Anker has recalled more than one million of its popular power banks due to fire985 Archivesburn hazards, according to a June 12 alert from the Consumer Products Safety Commission.
The brand has received 19 reports of fires and explosions from customers using the PowerCore 1000 A1263 model, which includes at least two instances of burn injuries and 11 property damage claims totaling over $60,700.
Anker has since posted its own update on the developing situation, announcing that the company will be replacing the China-manufactured charging banks affected by the recall. In order to qualify for the replacement, customers must submit photo evidence that they own the indicated model, as well as proof that they have disposed of the device properly. The company has advised those customers not to throw their power banks in their standard trash recepticles, but to instead contact their local hazardous waste collection service for further instructions.
This isn't the first time that Anker has had to recall one of their portable batteries — the PowerCore 1000 A1263 is just one of four current recalls from the company. (The 334 MagGo 10K, 321 Power Bank 5K, and 535 Power Bank 20K have all been recalled as well). For more information on how to check if you have a qualifying Anker power bank, visit the company's official recall instruction page.
