Mashablehas confirmed that YouTube Red has ordered 10 episodes of a half-hour sequel series titledCobra Kai, which will see original stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprise their roles as scrappy underdog Daniel LaRusso and blond bully Johnny Lawrence, respectively.
The series is set 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, when a down-and-out Johnny Lawrence seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo, reigniting his rivalry with a now successful Daniel LaRusso, who has been struggling to maintain balance in his life without the guidance of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi. The show is about two men addressing past demons and present frustrations the only way they know how: through karate!
Hot Tub Time Machinewriter Josh Heald will partner with Harold and Kumarscribes Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg to pen the series and executive produce, with Macchio and Zabka also on board as exec producers. Hurwitz and Schlossberg will direct multiple episodes of the series.
