President Trump called up Roseanne Barr to congratulate her on the monster ratings for the show's return, as first reported by The New York Times.

She added, "He was just happy for me. I’ve known him for a lot of years and he’s done a lot of nice things for me over the years and it’s a friendly conversation about working, television and ratings."
Trump is notoriously obsessed with TV ratings, but Barr had a more positive spin on this particular quirk of his. "He really understands ratings and how they measure things and that’s been an interest of mine for a long time too," she said.

It's no wonder Trump is so excited about Roseanne's popularity. Much of the mainstream entertainment industry is against Trump, and they haven't been shy about saying so. In some cases, entertainers have even found great success by sticking it to him – to his deep and abiding irritation.
In contrast, Roseanne Conner is the rare TV protagonist who likes Trump, and the woman who plays her is the rare TV star who supports him.

As recently revealed by co-executive producer Bruce Rasmussen, that wasn't always going to be the case. "Originally I thought, like everybody else, that she would not be a supporter of Trump," he said.
"But the moment we got in the writers’ room with Roseanne, she really wanted to be a supporter of Trump, not because she is one herself, but there are a lot of people in the Midwest who voted for him."
Roseanne, in both its original run and its recent revival, has always been touted as a realistic reflection of the white working class – the same category of people who've had profile after profile written about their unwavering support of Trump. (Never mind that a lot of affluent white people voted for Trump as well.)
In that same conversation with GMA, Barr discussed her decision to make Roseanne Conner a Trump voter. "We always like to be current and talk about the things that are happening in this country. We always have on our show, so we want to do it more."
