I'm not sure if raves are eroticism arabian nightsstill a thing, but I'm pretty sure IKEA is trying to makethem a thing again.
The furniture brand teamed up with Teenage Engineering, the Swedish consumer electronics company behind the OP-1 synthesizer and Pocket Operator, to create a limited edition speaker collection called FREKVENS.
The latest collaboration comes only shortly after IKEA partnered with Sonos to create the SYMFONISK collection. You can choose between a lamp with a Sonos One speaker built into the base or bookshelf speakers that you can tuck away on the shelf or use as bookends.
But where the SYMFONISK lamp and speakers are clearly built for those in the "adulting" stages of their lives, the FREKVENS collection is not. Let's just say it consists of pieces the frat guys I knew in college would have 100 percent fawned over.
You can take your pick between a speaker with a subwoofer or a smaller speaker without it. Both are Bluetooth-enabled and run on batteries so you don't have to worry about an outlet. The speakers also feature ports in the back, so you can plug them into your TV for more powerful sound or use wired headphones with a 3.5mm jack.
The speakers range from $69 to $149, but there is a cheaper option. The Portable speaker is only $19.99. And, get this, it's wearable. Equipped with a handy-dandy belt clip, you can attach this thing to your outfit and literally be the speaker.
The collection also includes a single LED light that syncs with your music, and a multi-use light that, as IKEA describes, "transforms your living room into a nightclub." If that's what you're into.
The pieces are completely modular, too. You can attach them all to create one crazy speaker that projects music and anxiety-inducing lighting effects.
But a party isn't complete without the right home accessories. Thrown into the collection are additional goodies like quirky cups, serving plates, chairs, and an ottoman. There's even a waterproof cushion cover for all your clumsy friends to spill drinks on.
My favorite, however, is the Cajón drum—because, no party is complete without one. As the speakers blast music, party guests can sit down and tap away to truly round out the noise.
As for availability, the FREKVENS collection will go on sale starting next month. But it won't be around forever, so be sure to scoop up your rave essentials while you can.
And while you're at it, don't forget to throw in the reflective raincoat.
