Jack Dorsey runs two big, japan sex video well-known businesses (Twitter and Square), but he doesn't think one of them needs to be profitable, despite how much Wall Street would like it.
SEE ALSO: No, Twitter shouldn't ban Trump—here's why“Profitability is a choice, right? It is a choice between investment and driving profit," Dorsey said at Twitter’s international headquarters in Dublin, rounded up in a piece by Silicon Republic.
"We believe there is a massive opportunity to grow and invest in the business. In terms of running the two companies, for me it is not a matter of time, it is a matter of focus and making sure we have a good understanding of what matters most and how you prioritize it," he continued.
Alright, Jack, to each their own for operating a business. You can take venture capital money with hopes to expedite your growth. Or, you can bootstrap and immediately build a sustainable business. You can go public, or you can stay private. You can hope for an acquisition, or you can remain independent.
Twitter, like any business, has had to face each of these choices: The company was VC-funded and raised $1.16 billion before it went public in 2013. They do bring in some money — though remain unprofitable — and have kept their eyes and ears open to acquisitions.
Dorsey gave himself one major goal for 2017 within his role as CEO of Twitter: make Twitter profitable.
So, that will probably happen. If not, it would be very bad for a stock currently trading near record lows and a CEO who has faced the wrath of Wall Street:
Dorsey wasn't just talking about money when he was in Dublin. The CEO's other goal is stopping the trolls and other abuse on the platform.
Sadly, these trolls may never die. "We are never going to be done, because people are going to find new ways of harassing people as they do in the real world," Dorsey said.
Last, and perhaps more importantly, Twitter may live forever: “I think Twitter is a company that will endure forever," Dorsey said. "It will last because it is fundamental. We make the time and take the time necessary for the people using the product and also our advertisers, and the revenue follows."
