"One of the most heartening parts of this past year for me has been the outpouring of support I've received from women," says Kelly, a Fox News anchor who was harshly criticized by presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald J. Trump and then harassed online by his supporters.
Washington speaks emotionally about how Shonda Rhimes, creator of Scandal, has influenced her life.
With its brief yet moving testimonials, the video makes a convincing case that women thrive best with each other's support.
The clip marks the launch of the latest campaign from Lean In, Sandberg's nonprofit organization and online community.
“When women work together, we accomplish amazing things.”
“So many women are lending their voices to this campaign because they have benefited firsthand from the support of other women and know what a difference it can make,” Sandberg said in a statement. “When women work together, we accomplish amazing things.”
In order to turn the campaign's motivational slogan into a workplace reality, LeanIn.org has published a series of tips on being a role model, ally, mentor and mentee.
The recommendations offer practical advice, including what you can do when a female colleague is interrupted or deprived of credit for her idea; how to build trust in a mentorship; and how to respond when you see a woman delivering her opinions with an apology. LeanIn.org also offers similar weekly tips via text or email, and a video series showing women how to support each other.
The campaign's distribution and advertising partners include Snapchat, Twitter, Google and, of course, Facebook.
