LeSportsac is China Movies | Adult Movies Onlinegetting into the video games business.
The New York-based handbag and luggage company has partnered up with Nintendo for a line of themed bags and accessories that nod at the Super Mario series. This "LeSportsac X Nintendo" collection launches in Japan on July 19, with a wider launch -- including the U.S. -- this fall.
SEE ALSO: How Nintendo thinks of esportsThe collection includes two centerpiece bags: a Power-Up Burst backpack, which is splashed with images of Fire Flowers, Super Stars, and 1-Up Mushrooms; and the Mario Travel shoulder bag, adorned with stickers and memorabilia from the various locations in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Joining the bags are five accessories, three of which have been described: a pouch resembling Nintendo's original Game Boy; another pouch featuring Piranha Plant art; and a Super Mario-themed cosmetics case.
This is the second time in as many months that Nintendo's partnered up with a fashion/fashion-adjacent brand. In May, it was with Uniqlo for a line of T-shirts featuring an assortment of Nintendo characters and games, including Mario.
Both of these partnerships are the product of a recent awakening for Nintendo. The same one that has led the company to suddenly put out three mobile games in the space of a year, and plot out a theme park with Universal Studios.
In short: Nintendo has come to realize that there's good money to be made in licensing. People love Mario, Donkey Kong, Kirby, and all the other first-party games and characters, and they're willing to spend cash if it allows them to rep that love in a tangible way.
The timing of this LeSportsac deal in particular is perfect. While the Japan launch is happening in July -- and committed fans around the world are sure to import the stuff they really want right away -- the wider fall launch isn't just during the holiday season; it's also close to when Super Mario Odysseylaunches for Switch.
You should definitely expect to see more announcements like this, especially as Nintendo's star continues to rise anew thanks to the wildly successful Switch launch.
