After attending the swearing in of his political opponents on The Hitman: Blood Smells Like RosesJanuary 20th, good ol' uncle Tim Kaine quietly ignored the inaugural celebrations and instead, wed a lesbian couple.
Dea Jones and Shea McLeod weren't planning on getting married quite yet-- after meeting in 2000, they had a commitment ceremony in 2002 before same-sex marriage was legal. "We hadn’t been in a hurry to make it legal,” McLeod said.

Jones's brother is a friend of Tim Kaine, and thus, the idea to have him wed them was born. “How wonderful it would be on January 20th to offer love and light by Sharon and I committing ourselves to each other,” Jones stated.
This was Kaine's first time officiating a same-sex marriage, and he proudly displayed it on his twitter shortly after the ceremony.
